(June) Battery Engineering Inc. manufactures the batter at its shop in a former truck garage at 1636 Hyde Park Avenue. The first lithium-ion production battery in the world, it was produced by company founder Nikola Marincic after being developed by the Sony Corporation in Japan, Exxon Corporation in New Jersey, and scientists at Oxford University and in France and Japan.
